I was honored to be selected to receive one of Northern Michigan University's Distinguished Alumni Awards in 2019. The honorees all received their awards at an awards brunch, followed by an afternoon in the President's Box and being announced to the crowd at Northern's homecoming game.
We also got to ride in the Alumni Float in the Homecoming Parade, which was unexpectedly more fun that we'd had in as long as we could remember. The memories of the weekend are ones I will treasure all my days. I am very grateful for all that I learned during my time at Northern. The 3D art department at that time was in an old converted Bird's eye maple factory, off campus, so we were able to experiment with all manner of creative techniques we might not have been able to do on campus. My professors gave me the perfect blend of instruction and freedom to pursue my own artistic directions, which at that time was critical in my creative development. Here I am at the awards ceremony with President Fritz Erickson and with my professors Marvin Zehnder and John Hubbard. In addition to the Art and Design faculty, many of my family and friends joined me for the awards ceremony.
