November 2020
"Quaquaversal" featured in
American Art Collector

I was delighted to find one of my Human Mandala series, "Quaquaversal" in the November 2020 issue of American Art Collector. "Beyond the Surface" was written by John O'Hern and focused on the art of the nude.
Regarding my sculpture, Mr. O’Hern writes “Quaquaversal, with seven figures, is the first in the series. Its title means 'moving outwards in all directions from a common center.' Mandala comes from the Sanskrit word for 'circle,' representing wholeness. It is used as a focusing device for meditation and spiritual practice. Quaquaversal suggests the common roots of humankind, the individual figures emerging from and coming together to form a symmetrical, ordered whole.”
Much gratitude for the including my work and for the insightful observations.

"Quaquaversal" is available for purchase through EVOKE Contemporary.

Lightbox Expo Online

Lightbox Expo 2019 was The Event of last year's convention season. Not to be undone by COVID-19, Lightbox Expo Online 2020 came back, bigger and better than ever! Hundreds of top industry concept professionals, studios and artists set up their artwork virtually, hung out in chat rooms, taught workshops, did demos, talks, panels AND... there were a ton of surprise virtual events that got everyone connected and kept us creating all weekend long... all while safely social distancing from home.

We ourselves did three full days of demos, workshops and panels all weekend long designed especially for Light Box Expo 2020 - 18 in all in three days! Over the course of the weekend, we interacted with thousands of attendees from all over the world: the US, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, The Philippines, Columbia, Peru, Brazil, Chile, Italy, Sweden, Greece, England, France and more! We were blown away by the enthusiasm and focus of all the people who were conversing with us via the Chat Feed during our demos. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to share our work, our lives and our studio with so many people from around the globe.

We are working on editing the  video recordings of demos and panel talks. We'll have them available to view shortly on our YouTube Channel. Check back soon for updates.

If Dutch is a challenge for you, here is the English translation ;)

Kristine Poole - Makes Passionate Soul Temples in Clay
Kristine Poole is in every way a daughter of the arts, she is one of the driven individuals who has the indomitable urge to create and has been since the earliest age. After all, there are artists who have the creative urge in their DNA, in which making their imagination, passion and emotions tangible is just as important as eating and drinking. When one asks an author why he writes there is never a clear answer simply because it is an instinctive need to express himself, this fantastic feeling you were born with and that you never let go of, the love of your life, the meaning of your existence, the song of your soul.
The work of Kristine Poole is therefore an extensive and wonderful collection of the uncontrollable magic when art takes control of your body and mind and creates creations unique to the world, an almost metaphysical gift to yourself as an artist and to all those who can appreciate uncovering dreams.
Her description on her beautiful website from when she first entered a clay studio is a clear description of a magical moment that would push her life in a direction in which she still triumphs with magisterial art. For some artists, the creation in itself of a work of art is a kind of religious therapy, it is the confrontation with the deepest thoughts and, thanks to innate talent and craftsmanship, it is a story that gets a different interpretation every time.  Sculpting is ultimately telling stories through visual communication and playing on the senses so that the general impression ripens the underlying story. After all, art is capturing emotions and dreams in order to mirror them back to other people.
The red thread in Kristine Poole's work is the seemingly endless passion that she puts into her work, it is not only visible, it is especially tangible you can feel it in her art, you can almost smell it as strong as the impressions come in. Like no other she has understood that you don't only make art, art also makes the person, just as she can mold an image to a certain form, it is also the art that polishes the human being into the personality that is responsible for all that beauty.
When I look at her work it's automatically how the superlatives come to mind, her website is a correct portal for the versatility of her talent. When I have to choose a favorite genre of hers to highlight it is her 'Imaginative Realism', this work literally makes me dream and in one sight thousands of stories are born in my brain by simply taking the visual association to me, always admiring the gift and professionalism. The images are invitations to a world of fantasy and literally fantastic stories. Kristine Poole is for me a high priestess who can give passion and soul to images. Phenomenal and intriguingly beautiful!

Northern Michigan University's
Distinguished Alumni Award

I was honored to be selected to receive one of Northern Michigan University's Distinguished Alumni Awards in 2019. The honorees all received their awards at an awards brunch, followed by an afternoon in the President's Box and being announced to the crowd at Northern's homecoming game.

We also got to ride in the Alumni Float in the Homecoming Parade, which was unexpectedly more fun that we'd had in as long as we could remember. The memories of the weekend are ones I will treasure all my days.

I am very grateful for all that I learned during my time at Northern. The 3D art department at that time was in an old converted Bird's eye maple factory, off campus, so we were able to experiment with all manner of creative techniques we might not have been able to do on campus. My professors gave me the perfect blend of instruction and freedom to pursue my own artistic directions, which at that time was critical in my creative development.

Here I am at the awards ceremony with President Fritz Erickson and with my professors Marvin Zehnder and John Hubbard. In addition to the Art and Design faculty, many of my family and friends joined me for the awards ceremony. You can watch a six minute  video of my acceptance speech wherein I talk about following your passion on my Home Page by clicking here.
