Cape Buffalo Man Fired clay with casein, 8.5"x 7"x 8.5"
Amusing the crowd with his tales of derring-do.
Tapir Gal Fired clay with casein, 5"x 15"x 7"
Languidly lounging in the sun.
Barasingha Lady Fired clay with casein, 10"x 5"x 6"
Barasingha Lady mirrors Cape Buffalo Man's pose as she listens intently to him.
Leo and Boaris Fired clay with casein, each approximately 7"x 17"x 6"
Leo and Boaris are a pair enjoying a day in the garden. I imagine Boaris reading his favorite story from "Savanna Tales: Boaris and Leo's Awesome Adventure" while Leo listens and idly draws in the sand. Boaris is one of the most versatile figures in the group, being able to partner with every other figure.
The Garden Party Fired clay with casein Private collection: Las Cruces, NM
The Garden Party is a grouping of "whimsically desk-sized" humanimals, created to be placed in various interactive poses with one another. I imagine them in a garden on a warm summer day, just about tea-time, lounging and chatting.
I find a compelling undercurrent in this grouping of imaginary creatures wherein predator and prey animals - foes in the natural world - are playing together and sharing their stories, and as a result, getting along and enjoying each other's company. Perhaps in these times, there are things we could learn from them.
