Custom Sculpture Pedestals

Picture
Many homes have the perfect place for a large scale sculpture to fit within the existing decor. If, however, your sculpture will need a pedestal, the traditional white box may not work with your space. The typical large, boxy pedestal can at times not only overwhelm the sculpture, but the room itself.

We began making contemporary custom steel pedestals for our larger scale sculpture for just this reason. They elevate the sculpture to the perfect viewing height, creating an open space underneath the sculpture, the strength of the steel allowing the sculpture to "float" within the space. In this way, the sculpture can be the focus of attention, not the stand it's sitting on.

Each steel stand has a custom fitted footprint and height. Hidden wheels allow the sculpture to be easily moved across hard floors for a change of pace throughout the year. We enjoy viewing our sculptures from various angles, and the wheels make this very easy.

Pedestals can also be custom colored to best suit the color patina of the sculpture. We frequently make the stands with a small lip around the top surface which can be filled with sand, softening the transition between metal and clay as well as adding a tactile component to the experience of your sculpture. These top surfaces can also be filled with small pebbles or gravel to best complement the sculpture.

Traditional box pedestals may present too much visual mass and look heavy in a space, overwhelming the sculpture.

Our contemporary custom steel pedestals help the sculpture to "float" within the viewer's field of vision, are unobtrusive visually and add a contemporary feel to any display.

Custom sand stand filled with "Black Beauty" - a very black sand with a glittery look. This beautifully complements the satin surface of my black patinas.

Steel stands can be custom designed to create cohesive groupings of sculptures as shown in this display of several sculptures from my "Human Mandala Series" at EVOKE Contemporary for the "Parallels" show.

Our custom contemporary steel stands make moving life-sized sculptures effortless.
