Buffalo Creek Art Center Commission
Aurora, 40"x 18"x 23", Fired clay with stains
Private Collection: Lake Tahoe, NV USA
Aurora was commissioned for this beautiful location on Lake Tahoe, where the rising sun bathes the interior space with new life each morning. In mythology Aurora was the personification of dawn. She is kneeling in connection to the earth and she looks up to the sky where the sun will soon warm the world. Her hands are held behind her representing the unknown each new day brings into being.
The client chose the words for the text patterns based on things that inspired her.
Here, the sculpture is shown in her finished clay form, prior to firing and finishing. The clay braces under her lower legs supported the weight of the sculpture through the building and firing processes and then could be removed and Aurora now balances on her toes.
