Working on this private portrait commission, I was honored as I came to know a bit about this woman's story and strength. Her kindness and compassion layered with an inner toughness giving her a rare beauty that I delighted in rendering in clay. In the time we spent together, I saw moments of the fortitude and humor she developed over the course of her life's challenges. The experience inspired me to become stronger and also reminded me what a privilege it is for an artist to do portraiture - with another person allowing you a tiny glimpse of their inner world.
