Daphne and Apollo is one of the more well-known Greek myths. As Apollo pursued the unwilling Daphne, she pleaded to her father, the river god Peneus, for help. Peneus felt compassion for his daughter and transformed her into a bay laurel tree. In this representation, Daphne appears to be performing a solitary dance in the meadow as she metamorphoses. She is shown in a state of introspection and emotional quietude. This painting has been featured in numerous publications including The Art Renewal Center’s International Salon Catalogue, “Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art” and “Infected by Art, Volume 3.”
